Are you one of those people that thought that early mornings were not for you? The benefits of early morning YOGA are HUGE so why not switch up your routines and try our before work Yoga sessions at New Energy Yoga. Read on to find out the WHY!
Why Early Morning Yoga is good for you?
Practising yoga early in the morning will warm up your digestive system and help nutrients move more easily through the body, causing it to metabolise carbs and fats more quickly.
We know how wonderful twists can be for wringing out the digestive system and invigorating our vital organs. Practicing these Asanas first thing in the morning can awaken our bellies, easing any morning aches and pains. And … who needs coffee?! Early yoga can feel like a jolt of caffeine – yet, unlike coffee or tea it can be argued that the energy boost you feel from deep pranayama breathing lasts all day!
It encourages better sleep habits.
When you make it a habit to get up and practise first thing in the morning, you are going to be so much more likely to make your bedtime a priority. Give yourself TIME to SLEEP.
As a real bonus, certain yoga poses stimulate the pineal gland – the one that excretes the melatonin hormone that regulates your sleep patterns. As you regulate your sleep cycles, you’ll feel the benefits immediately by simply feeling more awake and alert.
It sets your mental tone.
If you start your day by calming your body and your mind through Yoga asana, there is a greater chance that you will maintain a calm mind throughout your day.
Setting the tone first thing in the morning means that you are less likely to be swallowed up in the wave of thoughts, emotions and actions that can normally a day.
The feeling of self-empowerment that comes from being disciplined in your routine, brings increased mental strength into other areas of your life as well.
Morning stretching is GOOD.
Yoga lengthens and stretches our tight bodies, preparing us for all movement throughout the day. For those of us that sit at a desk or in the car , yoga poses in the morning counter those hours we spend sedentary. Yoga increases spinal flexibility and encourages better posture. The poses we hold when we first wake up will set our muscle memory into effect for standing taller and walking easier as the day progresses.
What better way to ‘work through’ your mental chitter chatter first thing in the morning!
It sets your breath for the day .
Starting your day in asana means that you are starting your day cultivating breath awareness. When you do this first thing in the morning, you are very likely to keep your breath on your mind for more of your day.
You may have a million things going on but many say that the lower and deeper you breathe and the more time you give to it, the longer you will live. It’s YOUR choice.
